Rest In Peace

Saturday April 14, 2007

Today our sweetheart-of-a-mare "Rey" went to be with her daughter "Raspberry" over the Rainbow Bridge. Rey had been suffering complications from Cushings disease. It had gotten the best of her and we could see no good in keeping her here. She was ready to be free. Free from her pain and her suffering.

Now she rests. And we will always remember her and appreciate her for how sweet, kind and wonderful she was to her babies, to us and to our babies.

Thank you for the blessings you gave us, dear Rey. Goodbye, our sweet, sweeeeet gentle giant.

Rest In Peace

Wednesday October 26, 2005

As many of you know, at one time we had Raspberry for sale. But we then took her off the market and decided to keep her for ourselves. We were excited about a future with her as a halter mare, a youth horse for our girls and then eventually as a broodmare.

Although we had decided to keep Raspberry, some wonderful folks, Kelly and Julie Shea of Two Shea Show Horses, contacted us a few days ago and talked us out of her. It was going to be a great thing. She would still have been in the Northwest so we would still have the opportunity to watch her compete in person. We were also excited that they had World Show aspirations. And we were to be given the opportunity to buy her back after they were done having fun with her. It was a perfect situation for a perfect filly

Sadly, on Monday October 24, 2005, still here at home with us, Raspberry began suffering signs of colic. She was taken to Washington State University Veterinary Hospital and was soon taken into surgery. Once in surgery, it became evident that she could not be saved and we heartbreakingly made the decision to put her down.

I would like to share the following words with you, sent to us from Kelly and Julie...

..."We are so sad and sorry for the great loss of your precious Raspberry. She was such a beauty and a special filly. In our minds we already owned her and had her here as part of our small family of horses. We have been thinking of nothing else since you agreed to let us have her, we were ecstatic. We could hardly wait to get her here and start her toward her path to greatness."...

Thank you Kelly and Julie for believing in us and our dear Raspberry. We wish things had taken a different path, but some great things just aren't meant to be.
